2014 Recipient
2020 Update:
Hey everyone! This could very well be one of my most exciting updates yet, but some background: after graduating in 2018 from The University of Tennessee I proceeded to take time off from school and work to travel Europe. I stamped 7 countries in my passport and had the trip of a lifetime! When I returned home, I got a job at a local emergency department as an Emergency Department Technician. I spent over a year and a half learning from some of the strongest and most intelligent nurses, doctors, RTs, etc that I could have possibly had the pleasure working with. During my time at the ED I got accepted into medical school! This August I started classes at LMU-DCOM here in Knoxville, TN.
Looking back on my past updates, it’s nostalgic to read and fulfilling to see that I have met my goals that I set myself years ago. I enjoy medical school more than any educational work I have done in my past which leads me to believe I am exactly where I am supposed to be. In fact, my interest in medicine started during Mr. Carmody’s phys/path science course. I remember that it was one of the first times in my life I felt truly inspired and interested by the material I was learning. As a senior in high school, I could have never guessed I would be in my first of medical school but I am so grateful to be here.
I also am happy to announce that I am engaged to my boyfriend of three and a half years, Max! He is also in medical school and we are very excited to get married in 2022! Cheers, and stay safe!
2018 Update:
As a recent graduate from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Kinesiology I am (still) pursuing medicine. I am taking a year off to travel, take extra classes, and enjoy my time as a 20-something year old before I hopefully get accepted into a medical school for the Fall of 2020. To keep myself in a constant state of distress diligence, in addition to a summer class I am taking a CNA certification course. Although being a CNA is not a glamorous job in the least bit, I hope to land a position at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital or UT Medical Center as an Emergency Department Technician to gain some experience with the emergency medicine specialty. I am intending on staying in Knoxville, TN until I am accepted into a post-graduate program in the coming years. For some reason, the thought of a repeatedly hopeful and equally disappointing Volunteers Football team has been enough to keep me coming back for more! Regardless of the fact that I seem to find myself staying in Tennessee year after year, I always look forward to coming home to Mascoutah.
2015 Update:
I am attending the University of Tennessee in Knoxville as a pre-med student. I hope to enlist in the Tennessee Air National Guard within a year to continue my schooling while also aspiring for acceptance into medical school. After graduating, I hope to join the United States Air Force and serve as a pediatrician! I am also a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity where I, along with my sisters, support Breast Cancer Awareness and Education as well as many different volunteer opportunities offered in Knoxville. I am currently underway with plans to permanently reside in Knoxville in off-campus housing for the duration of my undergraduate studies. For the fall, I look forward to football games, seeing my new friends, and hiking in the Smoky Mountains (if I ever get any free time to do so!). Congratulations to the new recipients and Good Luck!
